Curriculum

IMG_0490At CFUMC Preschool, everything that happens during the school day is considered a part of our curriculum.  Age-appropriate written curriculums are used as guides for teachers of the various age levels.  Learning opportunities are presented in a hands-on, child-centered, developmentally appropriate sequence through the use of small and large group activities, learning centers, outdoor play, and special events.

During 2012 – 2013, we added a Motor Skills class for all ages twice a month.   The focus of this class was to help the children develop their large motor skills in an age-appropriate setting.  Since then, we have consulted with an occupational therapist who has given us ideas for activities to include that will help the children develop their core strength.  Motor Skills Class has been a very successful addition to our program.  Beginning this year, all of our classes will have motor skills weekly.

During the winter of 2013, a Preschool Visioning Task Force was developed to explore possible updates and changes to our curriculum.  As a result, we added three new components to our already age-appropriate curriculum and made other changes that have strengthened our program.

We continue to use a Bible curriculum where all ages are studying the same Bible story, lesson and verse.  Of course, each age level will approach the story in ways that are age-appropriate for their age level.  This will allow families with more than one child in the Preschool to discuss the monthly story, concept and verse at home as a family.

All Ages

Certain special events and class parties are scheduled for the various age groups during the school year.  Check out the Age Level Curriculum Charts and the Preschool Calendar to see what special events we offer for each age level.

1 Year Olds

Children enrolled in our 1 year old classes will spend the morning playing and interacting with other children while you enjoy your morning out.  Our staff seeks to incorporate “play” with music, movement, and manipulative toys along with developmentally appropriate art activities.  These children have outdoor play each day and music and motor skills weekly.  Children may participate in our  1 year old classes two days a week on either Monday and Wednesday or Tuesday and Thursday.
